An empty shell
Ghost in the shell had high expectations from fans and movie makers alike to be a big hit since the original 1995 anime movie was a heavy influence on many sci=fi movies, but the result was weak. Scarlett Johansen wasn’t enough to hold the movie because she nearly replicated her performance in Lucy thinking she’ll achieve the same success. The plot taking from multiple adaptations in anime movies and series and squeezing it into movie form which was like randomly jumping from one plot to another that it was not comfortable to watch. The visual style was stunning and suited the atmosphere very well but sometimes with the action the visual effects was poorly executed. The characters even with the main antagonist were forgettable and didn’t leave a lasting impression.
To conclude, the movie had some faithful adaptation moments but hindered with pace and writing that didn’t reach to the desired potential as a phenomenon hit.
